Our family has some avid cookie dough fans, often sneaking a bite or two of the dough when making chocolate chip cookies. Eating cookie dough is traditionally considered a no-no due to the raw eggs and raw flour as they contain a risk for germs and harmful bacteria.
While it’s easy to leave the eggs out of the cookie dough, often it’s challenging to find a way to not eat raw flour. There are two possible solutions. First, you can use heat-treated flour, which is flour that is spread on a pan and baked at a high temperature to kill any harmful bacteria. The second option, and the approach that I took, is to substitute the flour with grain-free flour.
The best part of this quick sweet treat recipe is that it uses with whole ingredients and is naturally lower in carbs. It’s not completely carb-free, but it does offer a healthier treat option for those wanting to reduce their carb intake and still have a treat every once in a while.

Edible Cookie Dough Balls Ingredients
No bake cookie dough bites have a short ingredients list with just 6 pantry ingredients. Just like my healthy date snickers bars, this edible cookie dough recipe is simple to make and
- Almond flour – In this cookie dough recipe I’m using blanched almond flour. You can use unblanched almond flour and it will give you the same results with the exception of being a bit darker.
- Honey – Honey adds the right amount of sweetness
- Chocolate chips – While you can use any type of chocolate chips, I find that mini chips work best.
- Vanilla extract – Gives the chocolate chip cookie dough bites a classic cookie dough flavor.
- Butter – Unsalted butter helps the dough bite hold its shape.
- Sea salt – A sprinkle of salt on the tops of the little bites brings balance to the sweetness of the bites. My favorite brand is Maldon Sea Salt Flakes.

Other Ways To Enjoy Cookie Dough
- Create homemade cookie dough ice cream by crumbling cookie dough in a bowl of ice cream and top with a drizzle of hot fudge syrup for the ultimate dessert.
- Adding a crunchy element to smoothie bowls provides a nice contrast to the silky smooth texture found in most smoothie bowls. Crumbling cookie dough over the top is a fun option that gives that texture and tastes delicious!
- Stuff inside of dates as shown in my Cookie Dough Stuffed Dates.
- Store in the freezer for frozen cookie dough bites to enjoy on a hot, summer day.
Variations
- Swap the almond flour for another nut/seed flour such as sunflower seed flour or cashew flour.
- I find that regular chocolate chips are too large. If you want to use a type of chocolate chip that isn’t sold in a mini size, such as white chocolate chips or peanut butter chips, give them a rough chop before stirring them in. Another option is to leave the chocolate chips out for a sugar cookie dough bite.
- Create chocolate covered cookie dough bites by dipping the cookie dough bites in melted chocolate.
FAQs
These easy chocolate chip cookie dough bites have an almond flour base for a naturally gluten-free treat. Most chocolate chips are gluten-free too but it’s always good to double-check to verify.
