Notes
Are Raw Eggs Safe to Eat?
Depends who you ask! Pouring hot coffee over the egg yolk partially cooks the egg yolk, but not enough to totally eliminate the possibility of exposure to salmonella. Many people eat raw eggs, like in my homemade mayonnaise recipe, which contains raw eggs, without thinking about it. Be wise when choosing the eggs you use. Since we raise chickens, I trust the conditions in which they're raised and where they lay their eggs. Make sure the eggs are free of cracks or holes in the shells. Farm-fresh eggs are the ideal choice, but do the best with what you have. The eggs in your fridge will work just fine!
Does Hot Coffee Scramble Egg Yolks?
No! The egg yolk, cream, and maple syrup create a custard-like consistency that melts into the hot coffee like any other creamer.
What Are the Benefits of Adding Egg Yolks to Coffee?
Eggs contain a variety of minerals, vitamins, protein, and fats for a powerhouse of nutrition in one little package. In addition to the nutritional value, eggs are inexpensive and readily available for most people.
Does Egg Yolk Coffee Taste Good?
Yes! It has a rich, creamy texture without any egg flavor for a creamy treat that's good for you!
Can You Make Non-Caffeinated Egg Yolk Drinks?
It's no secret that regular coffee will elevate cortisol levels and stimulate the nervous system. For those who are sensitive to caffeine, opt for non-caffeinated options such as dandelion root tea, Rooibos tea, or decaf coffee. Substitutions and TipsHave fun and experiment making your own version of egg yolk coffee to find what you like best.
Use whole coffee beans and grind them fresh for the best flavor.
Add a splash of vanilla extract, almond extract, or a lovely combo of the two for an Italian sweet cream flavor (link Italian sweet cream recipe)
Replace the cream with condensed milk.
Make egg yolk coffee as stated, and then pour it over ice to make the creamiest cold brew coffee.
For added protein, stir a scoop of collagen powder into your coffee.
A milk frother is a simple, inexpensive tool for frothing the egg yolk, cream, and maple syrup. If you don't have one, add the ingredients to a mason jar with a lid and shake vigorously before pouring into your coffee cup and adding your coffee.
